2026 Jefferson Civil War Symposium

Time: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Place: City of Jefferson Convention & Visitors Center, 305 E. Austin, Jefferson, Texas 75657 Since Jefferson played a key role in the Trans-Mississippi Department’s military/industrial complex, Jefferson is a natural location for hosting Civil War Symposiums that focus on the Trans-Mississippi Department. This year’s 15th annual symposium will feature four All-Star speakers who are noted authors, speakers, professors, and historians on various aspects of the Trans-Mississippi Civil War history.

Texas flag-raising ceremony

Major John B. Burton Camp 1664, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Miller County, Arkansas is proud to announce an official flag-raising ceremony to hoist the Texas state flag at Camp Blair confederate cemetery on Saturday, August 22, 2026. This event is dedicated to, and honors the memory of the members of the 13th Texas cavalry who gave their lives in defense of their state during the war of northern aggression, seven of whom are buried at Camp Blair. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. in the air conditioned Doddridge, Arkansas community center, 189 Miller County road 201, with refreshments being served at that time. At the conclusion of the ceremony, attendees will relocate to Camp Blair for the official flag raising. Camp Blair is located approximately 2 miles east of Doddridge, at the intersection of Arkansas Highway 160, and Miller County roads 194 and 5. Dignitaries in attendance at this event will be local camp commander Frank McFerrin, and current division commanders for the states of Arkansas, Texas, and Louisiana, Robert (Skip) Barnard, Shelby Little, and Bobby Herring. Also in attendance will be past commander in chief Paul Grambling. Keynote speaker for the event will be Charles (Chuck) McMichael, past commander in chief for international. The public is invited to attend.
